VeLoCi database coming soon!
In the past few weeks, the VeLoCi team has been working on final changes to the layout of the open-access database accessible from the website on Early modern sources related to "lost cities."
This platform brings together different types of information obtained during archival research and bibliographic review, and during our surveys on the sites we are studying. It is a very diverse corpus of records, made up of bibliographic, textual, iconographic and material sources, essential for understanding the process of knowledge started before the official archaeological campaigns, the experience of living with ruins in its symbolic and material dimensions, and the territorial transformations during the modern age.
The VeLoCi database, which can be interrogated by keywords, aims to be a research and knowledge tool for those who want to investigate the Vesuvian area in its relationship with the past, through a dialogue between the different voices from ancient and Early modern sources.
An initial corpus of data will soon be available for consultation by accessing the website of the project.
So see you again in September with new surveys and much more news! Stay tuned.
