First explorations at the Archivio di Stato di Napoli
Both units of the VeLoCi project are now beginning the work of identifying and collecting early modern data on the 'buried cities'.
The Archivio di Stato di Napoli is one of the main institutions for our research, due to the wide range and diversity of the documentary collections preserved there, including the private archives of the noble families who owned properties in the Vesuvian territories, as well as the legal documents relating to the acquisition and sales of these properties. We are searching also in the "Collection of plans and drawings", where there are several iconographic and cartographic evidence of the cities to be excavated in the 18th century. The information collected by the VeLoCi team will be included in an open access database.
